In 1959, the Ludlow Typograph Company ran a contest at their booth at the Graphic Arts Exposition (repeating a similar contest of 1939) pitting Ludlow slugline composition against hand typesetting. The Ludlow won, of course. This booklet gives the results.

A brochure advertising the Ludlow Supersurfacer. This machine is an auxiliary machine optionally used in conjunction with the Ludlow Typograph Machine (a noncomposing linecaster) to mill a very small amount off of the printing surface of Ludlow slugs. This improves the face of the slug, and is especially important when casting large point sizes where the very flat face necessary for good printing is difficult to achieve solely by casting.

A brochure advertising a matrix storage cabinet for the Ludlow Typograph Maachine. This is an earlier version of the large "Universal" Ludlow cabinet, with fixed wooden partitions in the cases. Later versions feature removable plastic case divisions and are (in my experience) silver rather than green in color.
